Sudbury Golf Club Local Rules Effective - 21st June 2013
All play must take place only from the designated red, yellow or white tees of the day.
Out of Bounds (Rule 27)
Beyond any fence or hedge bounding the course.
In or over any ditch or trench on the boundary of the course.
Beyond any line of white posts.
In or beyond the Clubhouse and car-park.
On or over the flower beds in front of the Clubhouse.
On or over the paved terrace surrounding the Clubhouse.
Preservation of the Course: Abnormal Ground Conditions (Rule 25-1).
a. A player may take relief without penalty from Ground Under Repair marked by white lines.
b. Relief without penalty must be taken from Ground Under Repair marked by blue lines or where otherwise indicated by a notice.
c. A ball in or touching a drought crack on a fairway or closely mown area may lifted and dropped, without penalty.
Protection of Young Trees identified by being staked. If such a tree interferes with a player’s stance or his intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole.
Exception: A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if (a) interference by anything other than such a tree makes the stroke clearly impracticable or (b) interference by such a tree would occur only through use of a clearly unreasonable stroke or an unnecessarily abnormal stance, swing or direction of play.
Stones in Bunkers are movable obstructions (Rule 24-1).
Roads and Pathways, if artificially surfaced, are immovable obstructions. This includes the graveled area to the right of the 10th tee.
The Cover on the Culvert to the Right of the 4th Green is an immovable obstruction.
Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Greens, eg Sprinkler Heads.
If a ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard, and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball interferes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, relief may be taken. The ball must be dropped at the nearest point to where it lay that is not nearer the hole, avoids the intervention, and is not in a hazard or on a putting green.
Penalty for breach of Local Rules above. Match Play - Loss of hole; Stroke Play - Two strokes.
Distance Measuring Devices.
Unless the conditions of the competition state otherwise, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (eg gradient, wind-speed, temperature etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
Practice Before and Between Rounds (Rule 7-1b).
The practice areas behind the 9th tee and to the right of the 5th fairway are within the bounds of the course. However practice on these areas is permitted before or between the rounds of a stroke-play competition. Practice anywhere else within the bounds of the course prior to a round of the competition will result in disqualification.
